The idea is however deeper and smarter than what it eventually looks like, as it allows the artists to revisit minimalism from another angle. It works, and it's very interesting. IV was made by the Aedi network in December 2020 as an experiment in creative minimalism.

Each track was made using only four audio channels with one sound source each. 24 contributions were submitted, anonymously listened and voted down to 6 by the over 200 producers on the label.

The rules were:

" Your project should only have four channels with one sound source each.

- Return tracks do not count as a channel.
- Group buses do not count as a channel.
- Parallel processing is allowed.
- Drum & Instrument Racks are > not < allowed.
- Effects Racks are allowed.
- Outboard gear is permitted as long as you use only four sounds in total.

Example: kick, snare, hat, and tom from a 909 count as four sounds."
